Cricket statistician passes away

Cricket scorer-cum-statistician Sheikh Abdur Rehman passed away following a heart attack, his family said today.

On his way home after offering namaz, Rehman succumbed to a stroke yesterday, before he could be rushed to a hospital.

Rehman, 61, was a popular face not only in the Bengal cricket fraternity, but was known by the likes of former Indian greats Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.

Having started his career in 1970, Rehman did scoring in more than 100 Tests and 100 ODIs.

Rehman, who retired from the Eastern Railway last year, was recently attached with cricket associations of Orissa and Tripura.
