A sessions court here on Monday dismissed as withdrawn a civil suit filed by the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, A.C. Muthiah, against incumbent N. Srinivasan.
In his petition, Mr. Muthiah had alleged that conflict of interest was involved in Mr. Srinivasan holding the BCCI post as he was managing director of India Cements, one of the franchisees in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The former BCCI president alleged that Mr. Srinivasan had violated the rules and regulations in his commercial interest. Thereby, he gained benefit in the events conducted by the BCCI through IPL, Mr. Muthiah claimed.
“Mr. Srinivasan, in clear violation of a clause, bid for the franchised Indian Premier League rights for ownership of teams and was awarded the Chennai franchise, Chennai Super Kings.”
He claimed that there was a clear conflict of interest in Mr. Srinivasan’s role as the then Treasurer of the BCCI and his being the Managing Director of India Cements, which was awarded the franchise.
Mr. Muthiah had sought permanent injunction restraining Mr. Srinivasan from functioning as BCCI president. He had also sought permanent injunction directing the BCCI not to permit Mr. Srinivasan from contesting any of the post.
Mr. Muthiah’s counsel on Monday appeared before the court and sought to withdraw the case. Following this, J. Prabhudas, III Additional Sessions Judge, dismissed the suit as withdrawn.
