BPCL team in a happy mood after a six-wicket win over ONGC in the final of the 10th All India Dr. D.Y. Patil T20 Cup at the D.Y. Patil stadium, Nerul.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) chased down a target of 159 set by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) with ease under floodlights at the D.Y. Patil stadium. A spectacular first wicket partnership between Abhishek Nayar and Bhavin Thakkar helped BPCL cruise towards 159-4 in 18 overs for a six-wicket win in the 10th All India Dr D.Y. Patil T20 Cup final match on Saturday night.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, ONGC struggled till the arrival of all-rounder Sumeet Narwal, hitting three sixes and four boundaries in his half century, boosting the team score beyond 150-mark to 158 for five wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Mayank Tehlan played a supporting role with 35 off 32 balls, apart from Tanmay Srivastava’s 29 off 23 balls and Unmukt Chand’s 26 off 20 balls (3x4, 1x6).

BPCL regained the title last won in 2011 when Nayar started attacking the bowling and Thakkar joined in. The former struck 50 in 26 balls, hitting eight fours and a six. The latter needed 43 balls to reach 49 (3x4, 1x6). Skipper Suryakumar Yadav defied ONGC bowlers with an unbeaten 39 off 28 balls as the target was overhauled for the loss of four wickets and with two overs left.

Nayar was adjudged ‘Man-of-the-Final’ and received Rs 25,000. BPCL medium pacer Saurabh Netravalkar picked up 12 wickets from six matches to be named ‘Best Bowler’ worth Rs 25,000. ONGC opener Unmukt Chand, credited with 304 runs, bagged the ‘Best Batsman’ prize worth Rs 25,000 and was also declared ‘Man-of-the-Series’, which earned him another Rs 50,000. ONGC’s Manan Vora was named ‘best fielder’ and got Rs 25,000.

Vijay Patil, DYP Sports Academy chairman and Mumbai Cricket Association vice-president, presented the trophy and a cheque of Rs 7 lakhs to BPCL captain Yadav, the runners-up trophy and Rs 3.5 lakhs to ONGC captain Mithun Manhas. Balwinder Sandhu, member of India’s 1983 World Cup winning team and ex-Mumbai Ranji coach, was present. The event was organised by DYPSA, under the auspices of MCA.

Final scores: ONGC 158-5 in 20 overs (Sumeet Narwal 50, Mayank Tehlan 35, Tanmay Srivastava 29, Unmukt Chand 26; Saurabh Netravalkar 1/17) lost to BPCL 159-4 in 18 overs (Abhishek Nayar 50, Bhavin Thakkar 49, Suryakumar Yadav 39 not out; Surab Kumar 1/28) by six wickets.
