Chirag United defeats Mumbai FC

March 17, 2010 12:27 am | Updated 12:27 am IST - Mumbai:

Brazilian Josimar D'Silva Martins's heroics helped Chirag United return to winning ways as it defeated Mumbai FC 2-0 in a 16th round I-League football match at the Cooperage here on Tuesday.

Josimar gave the visitor an early lead in the 16th minute and then set the ball nicely for Ashim Biswas who doubled the lead for Chirag at the stroke of half-time.

With this win, the visitor has 26 points from 16 matches and is now third in the table behind topper Dempo and Mahindra United (both 29 from 16 matches).

The visitors started on an aggressive note and raided their rival citadel many times as the Mumbai FC defence put on a shoddy display. Chirag United surged ahead when a corner kick chested by Mumbai FC's John Coutinho went towards Gourang Dutta, who passed it to Josimar, who made no mistake from inside the box.

Joshimar then beat defender Bernard Achaw and sent a perfect pass to Biswas, who had had no difficulty in sending the ball past goalkeeper A.C. Nidhinlal into the goal.
