India’s No. 1 woman discus thrower Krishna Poonia slid towards her worst performance of the season with the Olympic Games athletics events just 12 days away, ending second at 61.26m in the British Athletics League meet in London on Saturday.
Compatriot Seema Antil won with a throw of 62.30m, her second best for the season. Briton Jade Nichols was third with 57.76m.
Poonia had been looking towards a target of 65 metres this season in the hope that she could end up on the podium to earn for India its first ever athletics medal in the Olympics.
Antil had started with an Olympic-qualifying mark of 62.60m in March, raising speculation that she would be able to aim towards her best of 64.84m or even cross that mark.
However, she slumped immediately after that with throws in the region of 60m before coming up with a 61.10 in Portland last month.
She was better than that on Saturday, though nowhere near the standards expected to make a mark in Olympics.
Both are expected to compete again in London on July 28.
