Reigning 800m Olympic champion David Rudisha, who set a new world record of 1:40.91 in the London Games, will be the event ambassador of the fifth Airtel Delhi half-marathon to be held here on September 30.
Current World and Olympic title winner Rudisha — who holds three fastest, six of the eight fastest and half of the 20 quickest times ever for 800m — will be here from September 27 to promote the half-marathon and encourage the participants of this IAAF ‘Gold Label’ event.
Besides roping in Rudisha, the event has set new benchmarks in terms of registration of participants. As per the data shared by promoters of the event, Procam International, at a press conference here on Wednesday, a total of 31,746 participants have registered for the $210,000 event.
Altogether 10,609 runners have entered their names for the main half-marathon. The Great Delhi Run and the Senior Citizens’ Run have attracted 19,781 and 1,125 competitors respectively. The event offers a bonus of $25,000 for a new world record and $10,000 for setting a course record.
