India's Kuldeep shattered the 10,000m race walk national record at the IAAF World youth athletics championship in Lille, France, on Saturday. But despite the good effort, the 16-year-old from Haryana could only finish 15th in the final.

Continuing his fine run this season, Kuldeep clocked 44:48.73s in the final this morning to better the 45:08 record of Delhi's Raj Kumar set in December 2003.

Russia's Pavel Parshin, who was in the lead almost all through the race, broke the championship record while winning the gold.

But Naveen Kumar disappointed, managing just a weak 44.23m throw in the qualification round.
