Kipchumba wins Milan Marathon

Jafred Chirchir Kipchumba of Kenya won the Milan Marathon on Sunday, crossing the line in two hours, nine minutes and 15 seconds.

He attacked from the 37 kilometre (23 mile) mark to break away from his compatriot and pre-race favourite Charles Kamathi Waweru, who finished second in a time of 2:11:35.

Ethiopian Asnakech Egigayehu Mengistu won the women’s race with a time of 2:25:50. Kenya’s Anne Bererwe Cheptanui was second in 2:28:22.

Former Formula One driver Alex Zanardi followed up his win at the Rome marathon with victory in the handbike race. Zanardi finished in one hour, 21 minutes and 19 seconds.
