It is one year since the consecration of Sri Kamakhi temple, Kanchipuram, took place. The project involved a complete facelift after which the campus looks not only spick and span but aesthetically refreshing. The premises has been freed from clutter and amenities put in place for devotees, who now have darshan in a more peaceful and serene atmosphere. The samvatsara (completion of one year) and the annual Brahmotsavam will be celebrated on a grand scale from February 20. The flag goes up on February 19.
The Sthanika Parampara priests are happy to inform that the utsava image of Sri Kamakshi, presiding deity of not only this temple but entire Kanchipuram, will be taken out in procession on golden mounts such as Hamsam, parrot and Suryaprabhai. Kamakshi Vilasam describes the goddess at Sri Kamakoti as Bilahasa Rupini (one who emerged from space). It is unique that the deities of all temples go round Sri Kamakshi temple and She goes round Herself during processions.
Special rituals
Brahmotsavam concludes with Tirthavari at the temple tank, Panchaganga, on Masi Makham, March 2. The Utsava deity will be placed inside the new golden Kamakoti Vimanam, the latest addition to the mounts. Devotees can have Viswaroopa Darshan of the Goddess seated inside the vimanam at 5 a.m. on March 3.
Brahmotsavam itinerary includes Yagasala pujas and Veda parayanam. The silver car festival will be held on February 28. Special arrangements have been made for distribution of ‘prasadams’ to the devotees at three places in the Rajaveedhis and the conduct of firework shows near Sri Katchabeswarar temple at the junction of South and West Rajaveedhi at 9 p.m. on all days.
Facility has been made for devotees to sit inside the temple. They can leave their luggage and mobile phones at a designated place. Clean drinking water is available and CCTV cameras will relay programmes conducted by the Devasthanam.
