Lions Clubs International District 324-A6 and Lions Club of Chitlapakkam has conferred the Lifetime Achiever Award to social worker and educationist, S. Visvanathan for his meritorious service to humanity. Lions Clubs International District Governor D. Sridharan presented the award to Mr. Visvanathan, at a function organised by Lions Club of Chitlapakkam at L.C. Mahal, Pammal, on June 16.

South Chennai Member of Parliament, C. Rajendran, in his felicitation address, expressed his happiness in serving the society for more than two decades in unison with Mr. Visvanathan.

President of Lions Club of Chitlapakkam, P. Jeyakodi recalled the services rendered by Mr. Visvanathan through the ‘Kannoli Project.’

District officials of Lions and Rotary, Pulavar E. Arumugam, Pulavar M. Ramalingam, Sudha Seshaiyan and R. Gopalan lauded the services to humanity rendered by S. Visvanathan.

As a social worker Mr. Visvanathan played a key role in establishing Sri Sankara Vidyalaya, Sankara Health, Education and Charitable Trust. He is the trustee and secretary of Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, which is the implementing agency for Rotary’s project ‘Kannoli.’ More than 1.50 lakh free cataract surgeries have been performed for beneficiaries in Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Thiruvallur districts.

The 30-bed B.P. Jain Hospital run by Sankara Health, Education, and Charitable Trust, provides comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare. He motivated many institutions for blood donation. He has organised many camps at numerous educational institutions. He is one of the coordinators of Forum of NGO Eye Hospitals, Tamil Nadu.

Kanchi Sankaracharya has conferred the title ‘Paraopakaramani’ on Mr. Visvanathan in recognition of his services to humanity. Lions Clubs International has recognised him with ‘Melvin Jones Worthy Person Award’ in 2010. He was the former president of Rotary Club of Madras Fort during 1999-2000.
