Last year, tech-giant Google introduced a travel itinerary app, which allows users to track their schedule. It primarily relied on accessing information from one's Gmail account containing email confirmation of reservations for flights, hotels and cars.
However, with the new update, Google Trips has increased its utility, permitting users to track public transport such as a bus and train which might not have email confirmation. The '+' tab on the bottom right enables users to make manual changes in their schedules such as car rentals and restaurant reservations. Moreover, free-form notes are an important addition in this version of Trips.
But, the biggest update is the sharing option that allows users to share itinerary with others through email.
Here are four ways by which Trips makes travelling easier:
1. Track and Share Reservations in the same app
Users need not search for individual reservation emails or confirmations. Trips serves as cohesive platform that collates all such information and sends periodic reminders about the schedule. Moreover, users can now share this information with others.
2. Make manual changes
While Trips automatically collects and organises information about your travel from the Gmail account, users can also make changes to their itinerary in this update. It can be supplemented by free-form notes.
3. Find localised information
Google's excellent editorial content enables users to find relevant information about the cities in their itinerary. Moreover, Trips comes in-built with suggestions about places to visit, restaurant suggestions, etc. which enables better organisation of travels. This is better aided when such information is linked to other Google apps such as Maps directly.
4. Download trips offline
Save on data charges and last-minute WiFi hassles by downloading your trips offline. On average, nearly a quarter of Google Trips users are offline for more than seven hours at a time while travelling, and nearly 70% use the offline feature and download trips in advance, according to Google.
The app is available for free on both iOS and Google Play.
