Trudeaumania, twitter wars and toilets - a social media wrap-up for today

Here's what the internet was talking about today:

The waiving flag a.k.a #AdaniPort

As soon as reports emerged over the weekend that the Rs.200 crore fine imposed on Adani Port and SEZ (APSEZ) had been waived, Political Twitter went full tilt into fight club mode.

Those critical of Prime Minister Modi’s policies — fondly dubbed ‘sickular libtards’ by those who do — were quick to point out the ‘hypocrisy’ of the government and PM Modi’s ‘relationship’ with the founders of the Adani Group. One thing spiralled into another and pretty soon, folks were up in arms asking where the ‘Modibhakts’ were.

When the environment ministry finally stepped in and said — no, the fine was not waived, >in fact they might have to pay more — the about-turn was quite quick. Twitterati were up in arms saying the news was ‘a deliberate attempt to malign the group’ and ‘mislead the public’.

So far, the trend has racked up over 11,500 tweets in the span of two days.

Kabali da!

Want to get your hands on tickets for Rajinikanth’s latest film? All you have to do is build a toilet... In Puducherry.

Turns out, the Puducherry government is offering tickets for ‘Kabali’ in return for building a toilet. And Sellipet village hit the jackpot.

According to a media report, as more than 45,000 households in Puducherry did not have toilets, the Puducherry government unveiled a Rs. 120 crore plan to make the Union Territory defecation free.

“We announced in Sellipet panchayat that those who build toilets in their homes will get ‘Kabali’ tickets free. Families living in 447 households defecate in the open. This is an incentive for them," the news outlet reported DRDA project director P. Parthiban as saying.

Justin Trudeau’s ‘pride’ moment

Everyone seems to love Canada’s new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

You can’t really blame us. From pictures of his boxing days and to his hilarious attempt at explaining quantum computing, little by little, the former school-teacher and the second-youngest Prime Minister of Canada slowly walked his way into our heart.

On Sunday, Mr. Trudeau hit a new milestone by being the first sitting Canadian Prime Minister to participate in an LGBTQ pride march at the Toronto

Needless to say, twitter went into ‘Trudeaumania’ mode.
