Fifteen more persons succumbed to swine flu as the toll from the disease touched 1,926 and the number of cases on Monday rose to 32,482 in the country.

Sharing the data as on March 22, the Union Health Ministry said that in Gujarat, which is one of the worst-affected states, the swine flu toll has climbed to 413 while the number of affected persons was 6,394.

Also, health officials in Rajasthan said two more persons died due to the H1N1 virus in the state in the last 24 hours, taking the number of swine flu fatalities to 402.

The casualty figure in Maharashtra stands at 349 and the state has seen 4,147 people having contracted the H1N1 virus while there have been 284 swine flu deaths in Madhya Pradesh with 2,099 persons being affected.

The toll in Telangana is 75 and Karnataka so far reported 80 swine flu deaths.

Uttarakhand has registered 11 casualties while in Punjab, the disease has claimed 53 lives.

One more death took the toll in West Bengal to 24 while it stands at 36 in Uttar Pradesh. Jammu and Kashmir has seen 16 swine flu fatalities.

In Delhi, the toll has risen to 12 with the number of affected persons at 4,152.

In Kerala, the death toll has reached 12 while 15 people have died in Tamil Nadu where a fresh casualty was reported.

Andhra Pradesh has seen 22 swine flu fatalities while 20 people have died in Himachal Pradesh.

Haryana has witnessed 49 swine flu deaths with the disease having killed 19 people in Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, alleging that the Centre was showing a lack of “sufficient seriousness” in coordinating efforts for tackling swine flu, CPI(M) on Monday demanded that adequate funds be deployed for the public healthcare system along with urgent steps for combating the disease on a “war footing“.

The party’s Central Committee, which met here on March 21-22, said that the Centre had also cut the health outlay in the Budget and charged that such a move would only worsen the public health system.
