Acting as saviours of wildlife, Army officers at the military station in Bikaner rescued a female chinkara, which had been mauled by feral dogs, and handed it over to the State government’s wildlife authorities late on Sunday night.
A Defence spokesperson said here on Monday that a member of the Ultimate Nature Club, established at the military station, spotted the deer being attacked and mauled by stray dogs and quickly alerted the higher authorities in the Army.
The Army officers came to the rescue of the injured chinkara and quickly shifted it to the Government Veterinary College in the town with the assistance of local environmental activist Pratap Singh and forest officers.
The deer was treated and is now recovering in the Bikaner zoo.
The Ultimate Nature Club at the military station in Bikaner regularly conducts wildlife and nature awareness programmes and organises visits to the forest areas. The club has sensitised the Army personnel and their families on the significance of conservation of endangered flora and fauna.
