A major seed plantation programme has been undertaken alongside the busy Mumbai-Agra highway following deforestation for widening highways.
The programme has been undertaken by an NGO ’Hariyali’
“First stage of our major seed plantation programme saw large number of youngsters as well as aged people coming ahead to plant seeds of various types of trees alongside the highway,” Punam Singhvi, President of ‘Hariyali’ told reporters here.
“We have so far distributed 25 lakh seeds of various spices to different organisations and people hailing from Dhule, Zodge, Malegaon, Nashik, Thane, Shahpur, Mumbai and Dombivali to be planted on both sides of the highway at Dhule, Igatpuri, Kasar, Shirol, Shahpur, Vadpe,” Singhvi said.
If the programme continues for the next five to seven years, there will be green revolution in the sector, she added.
