Tough road to justice

April 13, 2018 12:43 am | Updated 12:43 am IST

Even after more than seven decades of Independence, it is still proving to be a case where the poor are at the mercy of the rich and the powerful. They are even worse off when they are up against people with political connections (“HC takes up Unnao rape case”, April 12). The principles of natural justice never seem to apply to the victim if they are less privileged. Statements by top police officials that the guilty will be punished must be juxtaposed with the way the black buck hunting case involving a top actor has proceeded. Justice is slow. The Unnao case would never have received media attention had not the father of the minor rape victim died in judicial custody. It may take many more decades for “achhe din” to come to life in its real sense.
