There is no doubt that the Supreme Court’s earlier judgments have paved the way for the breaking down of the barriers of social, legal and gender discrimination against the sexual minorities (“Centre wants SC to clarify order on transgenders,” Sept. 12). The third gender must have their rights under the Constitution. The use of the word “minority,” is appropriate in this context.

In an era of rights where everyone has the right to equality, the third gender appears to have been left behind. In India, transgenders are treated in a very shabby manner.
