The politics of prohibition

August 15, 2016 12:02 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:37 pm IST

Why can’t we have a standard liquor policy for the whole of India (‘Ground Zero’ – “After ban, in a state of low spirits”, Aug.13). It can be either total prohibition or no prohibition at all. Liquor price should also be standardised by bringing it under GST. Once the meddlesome liquor policy is out of the way, States can carry on with good governance rather than fight over non-issues. Canvassing votes in the name of prohibition will stop.
