Telangana hiccups

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has virtually challenged his party leadership’s decision to bifurcate the State saying the Centre should address issues relating to water, power, employment and the status of Hyderabad before taking the next step. These issues can be resolved only after the new State is formed.

By resorting to aggressive postures, the people of Seemandhra are attempting to impose the status quo . They were not masters but partners to the agreement to form Andhra Pradesh. Their folly of treating the people of Telangana as second class citizens resulted in the agitation for a separate State. The people of Seemandhra should accept the bifurcation. The Centre will take care of all other ancillary issues.

For more than a week, leaders of various political parties have been making provocative statements on the issue of bifurcation. Every citizen has the right to live wherever he wants. He is free to work for any government or private entity. Nobody has the right to tell anyone to leave a place.

Leaders should desist from making statements suggesting that people belonging to a region should leave or stay in Hyderabad or anywhere else. Let people make their own decisions. Let the constitutional process be completed in a peaceful, smooth and democratic manner.

Hyderabad

When a State is divided, problems of government staff, finances, river water-sharing and new capital naturally arise. But these issues are not insurmountable and should not hold up the creation of a separate Telangana. The need of the hour is mutual understanding and a desire to part as friends.

P.V. Ramana Rao,

Guntur

Some have argued that Hyderabad should be made a Union Territory, a second capital or a permanent combined capital of Seemandhra and Telangana. These options are not viable. It is not possible to conduct the affairs of general administration from Hyderabad except for a brief period as it is not connected directly with Seemandhra. All political parties should think of developing a new capital for Seemaandhra.
