Story of excellence

November 09, 2012 12:26 am | Updated 12:26 am IST

The news of the untimely demise of Vijayalakshmi Viswanathan came as a shock to many of her Railway colleagues, including me. Even as a trainee officer in the Railway Staff College, Vadodara, in 1970, she made a mark as a budding and outstanding officer and impressed her colleagues and the faculty. Her career in the Southern Railway, the ICF and, finally, the Railway Board as Financial Commissioner was a story of excellence.

Lalu Prasad’s reputation as an outstanding management expert was during her term as Financial Commissioner and was, in no small measure, the result of her presence in the Railway Management team.
