Snooping row

April 13, 2015 12:08 am | Updated 12:08 am IST

The reports, “ >Bhagat Singh’s kin say they were snooped on ,” (April 12) and “Slugfest over IB snooping on Bose’s kin” (April 11) could push the mainline party to the wall. The beleaguered Congress is bound to find itself red-faced after the startling revelations. Facts in the classified dossier can neither be tailored nor changed and so Congress leaders will have to come up with better explanations and clarifications instead of attributing motives.

Bengaluru

The alleged snooping is not surprising given the culture in the Congress party. During the dark days of the Emergency, even the phone lines of Indira Gandhi’s cabinet colleagues were allegedly placed under surveillance by RAW. During Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure as the Prime Minister, senior Congress leader Kamalapati Tripathi’s letter, which apparently criticised the CWC’s style of functioning, was intercepted and made public. It is said that this happened after orders from the PMO.
