With the Sohrabuddin-Kausar Bi murder case getting exposed, the police have once again achieved notoriety for the manner in which they work. Is it not unfortunate that people can be eliminated in fake police encounters without proof in a democratic country? Sohrabuddin is still considered a terror suspect, not a terrorist. The Ishrat Jehan encounter case is still mired in controversy. Gujarat's image stands tarnished because of these incidents. Chief Minister Narendra Modi has a tough task at hand. He should support the CBI and let the law take its course if he wants to regain people's faith.

No one is above the law in a democracy. The CBI has charge sheeted the former Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Amit Shah, in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter and Kausar Bi murder case on Supreme Court's directions. How, then, can the BJP claim that it is being misused by the UPA government? Politicians should remember that people are watching them. They will deliver their verdict by using their ultimate power to vote.

With due regards to the media, I would like to express my strong reservations against the manner in which they are conducting a trial in the Sohrabuddin-Kausar Bi murder case. Police encounters are common across India. Recently, Hemchandra Pandey, a freelance journalist, was killed along with Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad under similar circumstances in Andhra Pradesh. We even have encounter ‘specialists' in the police. Some of them are glorified by the media. Why, then, is the Sohrabuddin-Kausar Bi case being singled out? The media should be neutral and fair in their reporting. They should oppose the BJP and Narendra Modi politically and intellectually.
