Separate State

August 12, 2013 12:21 am | Updated 12:21 am IST

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s statement that the issues of water-sharing, power-sharing and the status of Hyderabad be resolved before forming a separate State of Telangana is bereft of wisdom. He has defied his own party and behaved like an Opposition leader. He has betrayed his pro-Seemandhra sentiments, despite being leader of the whole State. His statement has given rise to a fear that he may not cooperate in the formation of Telangana.

Politicians with vested interests are trying to hijack Hyderabad, which is the heart of Telangana and has been an integral part of the region for years.

N. Santhosh,

Hyderabad

It would be better to keep Andhra Pradesh united in the larger interest of all regions, the State and the country. Let the unity of Telugu people remain intact. The grievances of the Telangana region can be redressed and all ill-feelings and apprehensions removed.

T.V. Nageswara Rao,

Visakhapatnam

After working for a separate State of Telangana, political parties are fighting for Hyderabad. The politicians are refusing to look beyond their regions.

Rohini Keerti Jammula,

Hyderabad

All political parties, more so the Congress, have ruined Andhra Pradesh for their interests. Seemandhra politicians should resolve not to contest elections to Parliament on Congress ticket. This is perhaps the only way to show their unhappiness with the UPA government’s Telangana decision.

N.A. Raghavendra Rao,

Visakhapatnam

The political crisis over the Telangana issue is deepening by the day. A decision on the status of Hyderabad is hanging like a sword of Damocles. Declaring it a joint capital or Union Territory is unacceptable to both regions. The Congress is caught between the need to fulfil its promise of forming a separate Telangana State and growing inner-party rift over the bifurcation.
