Sen on health care

Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s interview and his views on health care were valuable (Dec.18). All political parties including the AAP can profit from his expertise. China made rapid strides by spending around 3 per cent of GDP in this field. India has spent only 1.2 per cent and corrections can be made in the larger interests of the nation.

Health and education are two important tools in the economic development of the individual as well as society. Unfortunately, the policies followed by successive governments have reduced these two to commodities. While Dr. Sen wonders whether the Congress can be woken up, the BJP too has nothing to offer on these issues.
