Rafale deal

April 13, 2015 12:09 am | Updated 12:09 am IST

The surprise announcement, on Friday, April 10, of purchasing 36 Rafale fighter aircraft, may have been called a >setback for the ‘Make in India’ pitch , but instead, one should look at it as a positive development (April 12). It could pave the way for gradual technology transfer and helping ‘Make in India’ components acquire world-class standards. What is lacking in India now is a lack of expertise and the entrepreneurial capability of handling such a sophisticated project. One hopes that with proper training and an understanding of foreign technology, this ‘setback’ can be got over and help make India independent technologically.
