It is good that Jet Airways pilots have withdrawn their strike following an understanding reached between the pilots’ association and the management. But the private airlines operator has set a bad precedent: issuance of confirmed tickets is not a surety anymore for guaranteed flight operations in case of an ‘in-house’ issue. The airlines cannot afford to have “non-operations” continuously for five days.
The strike will have a lasting impact on the airlines’ future operations and income generation. The management could have minimised the period of strike and the resultant losses by giving assurance of conciliatory talks on mutually agreeable terms. No airlines can afford to have an indefinite strike.

Air passengers, while heaving a sigh of relief that the pilots of Jet Airways have called off their five-day strike, will want to know that the latter have fully recovered from stomach upset, migraine, cough and cold, high temperature and other similar ailments that they may have been suffering from.
Is the airlines making arrangements to examine the reporting pilots and certify that they are medically fit to operate flights?
