Parched towns

The water crisis that many parts of India face is alarming (‘Ground Zero’ page – “When Shimla queued up for water”, June 16). State governments should now think of having water meters as mandatory in every building so that consumption is measured and a nominal price per litre levied. The culture of thinking of water as an endless free resource needs to end.
