This refers to the editorial “New battle in Sri Lanka” (Dec. 27). When a leader becomes too powerful, which could be a pitfall of the presidential system, there is bound to be a propensity towards mowing down dissent.
With absolute power at their disposal, rulers end up thinking they are the be all and end all. Luckily, India has managed to avoid such situations, thanks to its robust democratic system.
