Not by the gun alone

Without a proper strategy and committed professionalism it would be difficult to eradicate the naxalite menace. After the ghastly Dantewada incident, the administration cannot afford to ignore the magnitude of the problem and the challenges ahead. Any move to blindly deploy the Army or the Air Force would be ill-advised and pregnant with serious and avoidable implications. It should not become another Sri Lanka-LTTE type blunder in India.

A committed, comprehensive approach is a sine qua non to deal with the problem of naxalites. We have to strike at the very root of the problem for which unstinted political support and a truly professional police force are necessary.
