No more in the RS

It is good that Kingfisher Chairman Vijay Mallya has resigned his membership of the Rajya Sabha and that there was no further drama of his being forced out (May 3). What is baffling, however, is his not wanting to further sully his reputation — there was never one in the first place. This episode should be an eye-opener to our political class on how to nominate the right people to the Rajya Sabha.

Even if Mr. Mallya is deported, why should he alone face the music? What about those at the helm of affairs in our public sector banks who approve the credit granting processes, knowing full well that many such big-ticket advances will ultimately end up as non-performing assets? If there is a move to publish the list of defaulters, it is a must to hold those responsible for sanctioning the loans and make them accountable.
