Like the author (“Spare the rod, you won't spoil the child”, Open Page, Oct. 24), I too come from a large family. We were six siblings, and I was the only son. The way we were brought up was very different. Parents today are busy at work and children grow up in crèches. Forget respect, how can we expect even love and affection from them? But we cannot blame the children either. They are shrewd and competent.
