This refers to the excellent interview with Justice Albert Louise Sachs (“‘Judges should be great storytellers of their age',” Feb.5).
His learned and spontaneous observations on the constitution, the rights of citizens and the role of the judiciary, in crisp, clear and short statements were refreshingly soothing and enlightening at a time when most people of his stature try to be diplomatic and audience-friendly while expressing their views in public. What he has said in general does touch the heart of the reader.
Finally, his lines that the “Supreme Court of India, as in any other country, should do much more than resolving disputes between people” and that courts play an enormously significant role in representing the aspirations of a nation, are relevant. We should experience comfort that the various courts in India are taking a pro-active role. One only hopes that our political masters are listening too.
