Interview of a historian

July 30, 2016 12:05 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:36 pm IST

It is well known that the education syllabus in India has been dominated by leftists and so-called liberals who owe allegiance to Nehru (“History may be reduced to anecdotes”, July 29).

During my school days, history textbooks used to begin with the Mughal period and end with the freedom struggle. There was nothing about the Chola, Chera or Pandyan dynasties. Nor did we learn about the Thirukkural , which is a classic. The dislike of so-called intellectual historians to anything Hindu has kept us away from our glorious past. If all this is being corrected now, it irks them. It is sad that The Hindu has published this interview. I wonder whether the paper will publish a counter to this piece.
