Girone may walk free

May 04, 2016 02:41 am | Updated 02:41 am IST

It is a travesty of justice that the Italian marine, Salvatore Girone, may be able to walk free thanks to differences over the interpretation of the international tribunal’s verdict (“Italian marine may go home”, May 3). It is a pity that the families of the poor Indian fishermen killed have been short-changed in this long-drawn-out case. The statements that India’s arguments in this case have been recognised and the Supreme Court’s authority upheld are empty rhetoric.
