Forgotten hero

November 28, 2013 02:02 am | Updated 02:02 am IST

Indian history has a long list of forgotten heroes — courageous individuals who served the country in a dedicated but inconspicuous manner and sacrificed their lives in pursuit of a higher ideal. The article “Lest we forget” (Nov. 26) will surely jolt our society out of its selective amnesia and force it to honour the memory of Satyendra Dubey. Who knows, he might have lived had he shared the sensitive information he had with a reputed newspaper. His sacrifice is unlikely to be appreciated by a society that has decided that compromise, not conscientiousness, is the sensible way to survive in a corrupt world.
