In the passing of Bipan Chandra, the world of historical research has lost a luminary. He was an erudite scholar and researcher, an inspirational speaker and a committed teacher. He wrote a number of books on the history of Modern India. His pioneering work, The Rise and Growth of Economic Nationalism in India , remains a benchmark for young and upcoming researchers. Bipan Chandra will be remembered for his service to the cause of secular and scientific history through his research and scholarly works, and for mentoring generations of students and young researchers.
