I welcome the Sessions Court ruling, rejecting the Central Bureau of Investigation’s clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in connection with a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Many families which lost their dear ones in the riots are awaiting justice. The judiciary must ensure that all facts as they occurred almost 30 years ago are brought before the nation. The 1984 riots are a huge blot on our nation. Be it the anti-Sikh riots, the Babri Masjid demolition or the 2002 Gujarat riots, the culprits must be punished for their misdeeds.

One hopes the cry for justice this time round will be loud and will establish the truth.

The decision of the Sessions Court to set aside the CBI’s closure report is a huge setback to not only Mr. Tytler but also the Congress and the premier investigation agency. Unless the court monitors the fresh probe, it will be an exercise in futility and waste of public money.
The verdict must have come as a big relief to Narendra Modi. The politics of convenience will ensure that the Congress does not target him over the 2002 riots any more.
