Departing with dignity

Kudos to Margaret Drabble for her article, “ >Time to let go ” (Jan. 2), and to The Hindu for publishing it. It is a “need of the hour” article. Along with the “freedom to live”, the “freedom to die” too is an essential right for all citizens, especially those above the age of seventy. With advancing age and attendant biological deterioration, quality of life suffers. I believe everyone is entitled to choose to depart with dignity rather than having to undergo a diminished state of life, bed-ridden and dependent on others for basic care. Hope and pray that there is a change in the collective mindset.
