Controversial term

November 22, 2013 12:05 am | Updated September 28, 2016 02:49 pm IST

Today’s politicians do not seem to have any control over their words when campaigning, when referring to other parties, their election symbols or their political leaders (“Modi defends use of controversial term,” Nov. 21). There is absolutely no decency, discipline, decorum or restraint. It is unfortunate that top leaders from the main Opposition party are in no mood to repent for their outbursts. While the BJP may argue that such terms are used commonly and colloquially and do not constitute personal attacks, both the Congress and the BJP have forgotten about what they should be talking about instead of hurling verbal missiles at each other and glossing over the burning issues before the nation. The “hand” is what feeds the home and helps one makes a living, while the “lotus” is holy. It is illogical to condemn one and eulogise another.
