Control and police action

July 28, 2016 12:08 am | Updated 12:08 am IST

It is an established principle that any administrative response in tackling mob violence should always have elements of moderation. Otherwise it is inevitable that the responses by the law and order enforcing machinery will transgress the boundaries of morality and human rights (“No substitute to accountability”, July 27). This can be seen clearly in the Kashmir Valley where security forces seem to have crossed all boundaries of professionalism. People from all walks of life must criticise the use of so-called non-lethal ammunition which is causing serious damage. Along with this, much has to be done about the professionalism of the police force.
