The article “The iron hand that rocks the cradle” (Jan. 30) offers an insight into the Norway episode — of children of an Indian couple separated from their parents and placed in foster homes in the name of “child protection.” If the Norwegian government and the CPS are so concerned about child welfare, they should expand their reach.
There are lakhs of children in need of foster care outside Norway. Why restrict themselves to a small territory, making children and their parents suffer?

The Hindu 's coverage of the issue is commendable. Human rights organisations and other countries too should take up the issue of such draconian child protection laws.
If Norway is particular about ensuring the safety of children living with their biological parents, it should take extra care when it comes to monitoring foster parents.
