Child nutrition

If there is to be progress in reducing the number of underweight and stunted children and improving the health of pregnant and lactating women, there should be concerted efforts to upgrade facilities of aaganwadi centres for better delivery of services, equip the ICDS with funds for better training of aaganwadi workers and incentivise participation of self-help groups and non-government organisations. There should also be regular feedback by parents of beneficiaries regarding the quality of food served and supplied. This could be done through ICDS staff (Editorial – “Food first”, April 30).
