There is a well-coordinated, concerted attempt to demonise the Karnataka Chief Minister for stopping the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. What else can the CM do? He has already released a large quantum of water from the slender storage in Karnataka’s reservoirs. He is fighting a last-ditch battle to save a little water for his people.
Last year, the monsoons were bountiful but Tamil Nadu allowed the excess water to flow into the sea. The Supreme Court should consider the Karnataka government’s plea for a respite.

The Cauvery river water-sharing has been a burning issue since 1924. The delta districts of Tamil Nadu, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and tail-end areas are dependent on the Cauvery water for raising their crops. Unfortunately, water-sharing has become a political issue rather than a humanitarian one. It is time to interlink rivers.
