I am surprised to read the defence of movies vis-à-vis events in our society especially in relation to crime, in the article, “Back to blaming the movies?” (July 6). The media is what greatly influences most minds irrespective of how mature the person is. In this age of blind faith and worship of the actions and deeds of our film fraternity, how does one expect someone who hero worships to make a distinction between right and wrong? There is a link between screenplay and real life and film directors must stop depicting such scenes which violate moral codes, encourage violence and are disrespectful to women.

It is becoming depressing to read and watch the news nowadays. One yearns for the days in the 1970s and 1980s when the flow of information was just right, film scripts and songs in general respected women, and life was more relaxed and much safer. In today’s information-overloaded world, values and norms are fast vanishing.
