Best-planned city

Speaking of how he will turn the capital of Andhra Pradesh into the best-planned city in the world, N. Chandrababu Naidu says, “I have done it in Hyderabad and I will do it here” (“We have to build from scratch: Naidu,” June 8). While wishing him all the best, I would also like to remind him that when he took over as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad was already well- planned with gardens, roads and strikingly beautiful government buildings and industrial infrastructure. Mr. Naidu only had to add to this, which he did. Undoubtedly, the Chief Minister will be remembered for making Hyderabad the hub of the IT industry. But unfortunately, in his haste, Mr. Naidu failed to provide the IT hub with a friendly network of roads. This has resulted in prolonged traffic jams at peak hours. I hope the same mistakes will not be repeated in the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.
