Being true to oneself

May 14, 2016 12:11 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:36 pm IST

I had the privilege of attending the event where the book Yamaraja’s Brother by Dr. M.K. Mani was launched (“Dr. Mani’s books are a must-read: Gopalkrishna Gandhi”, May 10) and found it appropriate that the nephrologist quoted Polonius’s words — “This above all… false to any man” — from Shakespeare’s Hamlet in a year that marks the 400th anniversary of the bard’s death. It will be befitting if these lines are recited by our politicians when they are sworn in to public office. In today’s scam- and scandal-ridden world, these words are no less valuable than the Hippocratic oath taken by medical professionals. The value of being true to oneself will also honour the playwright.
