‘This refers to the report “‘Beautiful and fair’ preferred among surrogate mothers too” (Oct. 25), which was shocking. I do not understand the mindset of people, who, invariably arguing against the benefits being provided by the government to the downtrodden, sometimes rigidly stick to caste matters. Surrogacy is an ultimate gift of science for those who are deprived. Beauty and fairness may be the choice but caste and religion are certainly not. It is not the genes that count but on how well a child is brought up and the value systems that are imparted.
