Battling the Taliban

December 22, 2014 01:55 am | Updated September 23, 2017 12:51 pm IST

The large-scale counterterror operations in Pakistan and the killing of militants by security forces show that Pakistan may have begun to realise the futility of fostering terror. (“ >Pakistan forces kill 28 militants ,” Dec.21). The country, which has teamed up with such elements to wage an asymmetric war against India, is now being compelled to deploy its own military in this operation. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto, similar attempts on General Musharraf and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, increasing and frequent bombings in its cities, attacks on military camps and, finally, the Peshawar school massacre are testimony to the fact that Pakistan has been hoisted by its own petard.

The time has come for Pakistan to mend fences with India by not only punishing the perpetrators of 26/11, but also eliminating   key terror outfits that are a menace to peace and stability in the region.
