Back in the race

Rafael Nadal is one of the all-time greats (“The king and his court,” June 11). With his eighth victory at the French Open, he is back in the race for the year-end number 1 ranking. The 27-year-old is moving to challenge the top-ranked Novak Djokovic, who he beat in the semifinal at Roland-Garros. Nadal is on the upswing with his positive attitude.

Nadal’s epic victory in the French Open put the stamp of his continued domination over clay. Coming out of an almost year-long injury, he silenced his critics. Nadal’s victory is all the more significant as it came amid speculations of his being not so agile.
