Amusing

I am amused by the nationwide fuss over India's loss in the ICC World Twenty20 as if it is a national calamity. Dhoni & Co. reflect a national malaise — of greed, high living and lack of pride in the nation. All of us are equally guilty of what the young men have been accused of. Let us be proud of Viswanathan Anand and pray for his further successes.

A huge fanfare with a tame ending — that is how the T20 debacle deserves to be summed up. Our team lacked the will to fight and win. The selectors should learn a lesson or two from Team India's performance.

We are complaining as though our country has lost everything and there is nothing left to cheer. The women's cricket team, which entered the semi-finals of the ICC women' World T20, has barely merited a mention in many sections of the media. Viswanathan Anand has become the world chess champion for the fourth time. But most sections of the media are flooded with grievances against the cricket team. The men in blue certainly do not enjoy a monopoly over Indian sports.
